What is a trust center?

Glossary

The short answer

A trust center is a public web page, often with a gated document area, where a company shows its security, privacy and compliance posture to customers and prospects. It typically lists certifications and audit reports, security practices, policies, subprocessors and data locations, and lets approved visitors download sensitive documents such as a SOC 2 report under NDA.

How does a trust center work?

A trust center usually has two layers. The public layer answers common questions at a glance. The gated layer holds documents that should only go to real prospects, released after a request, an NDA or an approval by your team. Good trust centers pull status from your compliance program so the page stays current instead of drifting out of date.

Why does a trust center matter for startups?

Enterprise security reviews can add weeks to a sales cycle. A trust center lets buyers self-serve the basics, which means fewer emails, fewer repeated questions and a more professional first impression. For a small team, it also means one source of truth, so sales, founders and engineers all give the same answers.

Tips for a credible trust center

  • Accuracy: list only frameworks and controls you actually have, and label in-progress work clearly.

  • Freshness: show when information was last updated.

  • Access control: gate sensitive reports and keep a record of who received them.

  • Contact: give buyers a clear way to ask security questions.

How NexusVoid handles it

Aegis, NexusVoid’s compliance automation product, includes a trust center fed by your compliance program, alongside questionnaires answered from evidence, tailored policies and auditor-ready exports. Status on the page comes from the same controls and evidence your team maintains in Aegis.

Frequently asked questions

What should a startup put on its trust center?

Start with what buyers ask about most: compliance status (for example, SOC 2 in progress or completed), a short security overview, your list of subprocessors, data hosting regions, key policies in summary, and a contact for security questions. Add an option to request the full SOC 2 report or pentest summary under NDA. Only list things that are true today.

Should my SOC 2 report be public on the trust center?

Usually not. SOC 2 reports contain detailed information about your systems and controls and are generally shared under NDA. A common approach is to show that you have the report publicly, then gate the document itself behind a request form or click-through NDA, so you control who receives it and keep a record of access.

Is a trust center the same as a security page?

A trust center is a more complete and structured version of a security page. A basic security page is often static marketing text. A trust center typically adds live compliance status, downloadable or gated documents, subprocessor lists and a way to request access, so buyers can complete much of their review without emailing your team.

Does a trust center replace security questionnaires?

Not completely, but it reduces them. Some buyers accept a trust center plus your SOC 2 report in place of their questionnaire. Others still send their own form, but you can answer faster by pointing to published documents. Either way, it shortens the review and makes the answers consistent.
